Ikea Mall, Dubai 04 February 2020 Case Studies/Ikea Mall, Dubai The Project Concrete floor slabs on ground floor for new IKEA mall. How it works K-Form uPVC screeding rail provides the construction industry, with an economical, efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to steel shuttering. Made from recycled materials, K-Form is lightweight, durable and does not require removal after concrete pouring. It is easily cut to length on site and has pre-drilled holes in the vertical face for locating steel dowels bars and in the base for mortar anchoring. Furthermore, the design features end clips for joining and a removable top strip for joint sealing. Designed to be used with twin beams, bunyan rollers or vibro strikes, K-Form K135 and K85 disposable railing replaces steel forms where joints are needed. The Solution This project has 200mm Slab above the raft slab. With total area of 55,000 sq.m Initially the project started with traditional timber style which is a slow and labour intensive system. When using this method, each concrete bay took 2 days to complete and power float. The contractor revised the pouring method to utilise Kform’s K135 screed rail system and from then on, the concrete floor slabs were poured and power floated at a speed of 10 bays per day. The time saving on this project reduced the concrete pouring and power floating timescale from 6 months to 3 months and brought the entire project back on schedule.
